Federal Truth in Mileage Act

Federal law requires the seller to disclose the odometer reading when transferring a vehicle less than 20 years old.

The seller certifies whether the reading reflects actual mileage, exceeds mechanical limits, or is not the actual mileage.

Odometer Disclosure on the Title

The primary odometer disclosure is made on the certificate of title assignment. Both the title and bill of sale should show consistent mileage.
